April is Autism Awareness Month

th (2)

Autism Awareness month is a campaign meant to bring awareness to autism and the rise in its diagnosis. While there are some facts about autism that are widely publicized there are some statistics that are not often publicized.

What is Autism? Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome.

Autism is the fastest growing disability in the United States.

Autism is more common than childhood cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined.

In the United States, one in 98 boys are diagnosed with autism, and 24,000 people are diagnosed with autism for the first time every year.

Researchers are unclear why boys are diagnosed with autism more than girls, but some think that the problem lies with the X chromosome, of which boys only have one.

Approximately 67 million people worldwide are affected by autism.

According to Autism Speaks, autism costs a family $60,000 annually on average.

What Causes Autism?

U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)1 in 88 kids has an autism spectrum disorder, but no one knows what causes them. Scientists think that there’s a connection to genetics and the environment.

It has been shown that 30%-50% of autism cases are inherited

Most cases of autism are considered Idiopathic meaning “without known cause.”

Although there is still much research to be done, new Studies link autism to Environment, dozens of chemicals in the environment are neurodevelopmental toxins, which mean they alter how the brain grows.

Environmental factors that could trigger predisposed genes to mutate and cause autism are vast and could include certain drugs, chemicals, heavy metal exposure, antibiotics and flame retardants.

Toxins and other environmental factors can contribute to autism at various points in an individual’s development. Toxins don’t have to kill people or cells in their bodies to cause harm. They can change how the brain and body develop, and how they function.

Toxins compounds are 200 to 500 times higher in some homes than outdoors.

We can’t change our genetics, but we can change the products that contain harmful toxins that we use daily in our homes

Dream Job

dreamjob

The concept of the “dream job” is more of a fantasy.  It might exist somewhere, but if anyone has a dream job, I have yet to hear about it.

So, instead of creating your “dream job”, you need to create your “dream life” Then you will be able to create your dream life.

Are you happy with your life right now? Are you WAITING for something good to happen to you or for you? Maybe hoping that you’ll win the lottery or The Economy will get better and jobs will magically appear.

If you sit around hoping and waiting for your life to change, it won’t!

Instead you have to go out and make things happen for yourself, which is possible as long as you don’t make excuses.

“Doubt Kills More Dreams Than Failure Ever Will”

Try to focus on the possibilities: How great will things be if it all works out? See it in your head. Feel it. Set Goals and accomplish them.

“If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you.”

Quit trying to find your dream job – it doesn’t exist.  Go out there and start creating your dream life.  It’s easier than you think, and once you take one step down that path, you’re never going to want to turn around.

What’s in your shampoo?

baby

Talk about unsafe! Women use an average of 12 beauty products containing more than 125 unique chemicals every morning before they walk out the door, every day. Even worse: Only 11% of chemicals in personal care products in the U.S. have been assessed for safety.

TOXIC INGREDIENTS IN PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS

Are you aware that most of the shampoos and personal care products used today have cancer causing agents?

The cosmetic industry and the personal care product industry is absolutely a mess. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, there are 30 billion dollars a year spent on shampoos, creams, lotions and personal
care products. The Food and Drug Administration did two studies that show that 27 out of 29 cosmetics, contain high concentrations of a substance called Nitrous Diethanolamine which causes cancer. Now this means what you put on your skin can actually contain a substance that causes cancer.
A study by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and health said that there are 884 toxic chemicals in personal care products. Seven hundred and seventy eight cause acutetoxic affect. What does that mean in English? That
means that it could cause a headache, it could cause a rash, it makes you sick in some way right away.

One hundred and forty six of the chemicals can cause tumors. Now some of
these tumors are like cancer. Some are not cancers, but some of them are.

Three hundred and fourteen can cause developmental abnormalities. What does that mean? It means that if you put it on yourself when you are pregnant, thatyour baby might not be normal. When a child’s nervous system and brain is developing, some of these chemicals could adversely affect that. Some of these chemicals, if you just breath the vapors, they can make a baby sick.

Two hundred and eighteen of these chemicals can cause peproductive problems, Three hundred and seventy six can cause skin or eye damage.

If you look at the organs of the body, like your heart and
your liver, and your kidney and your spleen, you will find that
the biggest organ of your body is your skin. This is why it is
so important to pay attention to what we put on our skin.

Should you be concerned about it? I think so.
